"Blue light protection" skincare: real thing or marketing?

I'm seeing a lot of serums and creams that say they protect against "blue light from screens". Given that I spend 12 hours a day in front of a monitor (work, then games, then more games), should I be worried?

Or is this just a new way to sell me a $50 serum?

The light coming out of your monitor is tiny compared to going outside for 5 minutes. The sun is the real problem. Wear sunscreen and don't worry about your monitor.

There's some research on visible light and pigmentation, especially for darker skin, but that's about sunlight, not screens. Tinted sunscreens with iron oxides help with that. Not a special "screen" serum.

@jade_gal ok this makes sense. so the visible light thing is real but the screen thing is mostly marketing

the real damage from 12 hours of screens is to your sleep and your posture. ask me how my neck is doing

My under-eye circles would like to join this conversation. Not blue light, just 2am raids.

Didn't buy the $50 serum. Bought a tinted sunscreen. Also turned on night mode on my monitor, which isn't skincare but my eyes are grateful
